as a church, is pretty young. We’ve been a community of believers about 4 years. We dress casually and laugh often. We value family, authenticity, instruction through God’s Word, transformation (becoming the person God wants us to be), and hands-on ministry.
We all come from different backgrounds. Some have been followers of Jesus for years, others have only started their spiritual journey. Some have been turned off from church and others had never gone to church before. Some are rich, some are poor, and some are college students. Some of us have kids while others have grandchildren. But, no matter what, we call each other family. So, what do we offer?
At Journey, there’s something for every age.
Kompass Kidz: Kompass Kidz meets during the church service on Sundays. While kids younger than those in Kindergarten go to nursery, kids K-5th grade go to Kompass Kidz. While there, they learn about helping others, people who are serving Jesus around the world, and about a God who loves them very much.
BSD&T: Bible Skills, Drills, and Thrills meets on Wed. at 6:30 p.m. Kids from birth to 5th grade have a place here where they learn memory verses, Bible stories, and play a lot of games, making friends they didn’t have before.
The Zone: From 6th grade to a senior in high school, students can be part of The Zone Youth. The Zone, led by Justin and Heather Elsten, come together on Sundays and Wednesdays to learn from the Bible together. They also go to concerts, have movie nights, host fund-raising events, and toilet-paper the pastor’s truck often.
College-age: The college-age class meets on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. to study God’s Word together and they meet on Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for “Office” Nights, where they watch “The Office,” play games, eat food (free food), and meet new people. They also go to Lambert’s in the Spring and have a rotating dinner at church members’ homes in the Fall.
Adult Classes: There are 2 adult classes, one led by the Ingles and the other led by Steve Szczepanik. While one is for young couples, both classes grow together in their knowledge of God’s Word and how to apply it daily to their lives, while lifting each other up in prayer and forming relationships both outside and inside the class.
On Bent Knees: On Bent Knees is Journey’s men’s ministry. The men here meet to provide an atmosphere of trust and deep, lasting friendships. They also challenge each other to be the man God has called them to be through accountability and Scripture memorization. On Bent Knees meets Sundays at 8 a.m.
Beloved: Beloved in the women’s ministry which meets throughout the year for Scrap booking, attending women’s events, hosting Secret Sisters, and being there for each other as friends should. There is also a women’s prayer group that meets Mondays at 7:15 p.m.
Other ministries: So, what else is Journey up to? Journey is a church-planting church (a church that desires to start up new churches.) As such, Journey helps out at City of Refuge on a regular basis and also helps Risen Ranch Cowboy Church. If you’d like to help with either we’d love to get you in touch! Journey is also in the process of planting a church called Portico for college students at Southern.
As you can see, Journey does a lot. But, Journey is more than their meetings or what they do. Journey is about God first and also about people. Journey is each face that you see as you come into the door. We are common people, on a journey of faith together, discovering the adventure of a relationship with God in our every-day lives. We’d love for you to join us on this adventure at Journey Church!
